A beautiful, handmade birch bark canoe is on display now through December at Madison Children’s Museum. Walk through the MCM doors and look up to see this Ojibwe masterpiece. The creation of the canoe was lead by Wayne Valliere (Mino-giizhig in Ojibwe), of the Lac du Flambeau band of Lake Superior Chippewa.

Click through to this UW blog to learn more, read the WSJ article on the canoe, and be sure to watch the YouTube video detailing how it was carefully crafted based on Ojibwe traditions. Then be sure to come to the children’s museum to see it first-hand!
